Amazon Strikes Again

So I saw this entry on one of my favorite author blogs.

It brings up an interesting question -- what happens to your marketing efforts when you don't really have a hard-and-fast "release date" anymore, if the eBook version suddenly drops unexpectedly early?

(N.B.: What I don't know is if this was in fact Baen's original plan, in which case it's likely more a matter of "it would have been nice to keep everyone in the loop" than anything else.)

Thoughts?

  1. Interesting, too, that Amazon lists the pub date as October 10 (probably the day the Kindle file was uploaded by the publisher(?)--but why would they do this so far in advance of the pub date?) and Baen lists it as November 1. I wonder if Baen will let you download it now if you go all the way through their checkout system...

On a side note, this looks like a really interesting book. If you are interested in the subject matter, check out The Prester Quest (nonfiction) by Nicholas Jubber.
